different but better.

I have emailed more with my husband in the last 10 days than ever before.  Well, except for when we were in college and lived three hours away, there were many an email during those days.  Turned out that we had a lot to say when we lived in different states and even more when we are on different continents.  No surprise really, since we email a few times a day when he is stateside.

Either way, this stretch of time with him gone is almost over and although we believe wholeheartedly for this opportunity for him, we are just all better together. That being said, Hannah and I have made the most of our extended girl time and as I wrote last week, I have been practicing being present.

A big part of our being present this weekend was spending time with these two:

It was such a blessing to me to be in a place with people who know me, know my heart and share their lives with us.  We walked, swang, ate great food, watched bad tv with no coercion, ate ice cream sandwiches as appetizers and talked talked talked.  Or as Dennis would say, Emily and I tweet tweet tweeted like little birds.  We were present, together, for two wonderful days.  The only thing that would have made it better would have been Ryan joining us.

As Hannah and I drove home Saturday night, I thought through the way life used to be a year ago and almost couldn’t remember that time.  But in a way, things are the same and oh so different all at once.  There we were,  exploring city life, even at 7 a.m. through the view of a stroller and enjoying donuts on a Saturday morning.  Different but better.

Lazy Saturday afternoon lunch consisting of a whole lot of hummus and veggies, grilled cheese and fries.  A feast.

I’m increasingly more aware in this season that life is richer when shared with others.  So thankful for the chance to share life with these two.  Can’t wait to see have you guys join us in Ann Arbor this summer when our family is all together again!

*Also to be noted, our dear friend Katie wrote her own letter to Hannah this week on her blog.

It’s beautiful and expresses perfectly the sweet friendship she and Hannah have.   You can read it here.

*I’m finished with my series of Dear Hannah letters for her first year & still plan to write more letters to her but for now, here the collection in full.

Two days until Ryan is home and I can’t wait for the summer to begin!
